Our People

IN INDONESIA, GIRLS (AND BOYS) JUST WANNA HAVE FUN!!!
Many Oakwood guests living in Asia and globally will have visited Indonesia to transact business in Jakarta, Surabaya, Batam, Medan or one of the growing number of secondary cities. They will tell you that Indonesian people are hospitable, friendly, eager to learn and share knowledge; visitors learn much more when they join their Indonesian hosts for great traditional food while relaxing over a nice chat about almost any topic under the sun!
That’s for a casual get-together. When they are given the chance to play -- for fun or competitively -- light the touch paper and retire! Oakwood Premier Cozmo Jakarta is testament to this because while they truly work hard, they definitely play hard too!
The monthly “Associates’ Gathering” is a perfect example. A department volunteers to be the host and two members are elected to be the emcees for the evening. A theme is chosen and, the “Fun Dining” associates’ restaurant is decorated accordingly, the emcees following the same.
In the course of the proceedings, “Golden Leaf” and “Golden Touch” associates recognition awards are handed out to the worthy recipients. More guest comments are proudly read out by the General Manager in appreciation of associates for a job well done.
Then come the fun and games. Balloons, ping pong balls, paper cups, rubber bands, and strings – each month a different game is played using various props but all with an underlying platform. Not only the contestants shriek and whoop; but the spectators almost get carried away in their enthusiastic support for department colleagues or friends. Banter is exchanged as the competitors joust fiercely to earn the right to claim the coveted first prize! After two or three games, everyone is left breathless from laughing.
Most months the host department is able to conjure up a live musical act in which, hitherto, undiscovered talents are revealed to be budding “Elvis” or “Lady Gaga”s awaiting their chance for stardom. The encores echo around the restaurant as the performers enjoy well-deserved applause.
Lucky draw, birthday cake and, of course, some yummy Indonesian “spicy” snacks; then the emcees bid farewell and everyone looks forward to the next month’s surprise!
So next time you are in Indonesia make sure you find time to enjoy, not only the food, but also the collective happiness and fun which is so endemic throughout this society.
