Did you know…
Children are our future. Our nation’s growth and development depends on the quality of education our children receive. Their ability to become full and productive citizens depends on their attitude, character and behavior during their formative years.
In 1996, the Ministry of Social Affairs in Indonesia recorded more than 5 million school age children throughout the country who have dropped out of school due to family poverty issues. Despite the government’s efforts to improve and subsidize education facilities and resources, there are still families who live under the poverty level and find it impossible to send their children to school.
Many Individuals, Groups and Organizations have been eager to help these disadvantaged children. However, the donations were rather sporadic and the desired goals were not achieved. In order to encourage and coordinate increased contributions, on 29 May 1996, GNOTA (Gerakan Orang Tua Asuh) or the National Foster Parents Movement was established.
Oakwood has partnered with the GNOTA movement to provide better care and improved education for disadvantaged school children from SD Kuningan Timur 01
, which is
located next to Oakwood in the Mega Kuningan area of Jakarta. The partnership is now entering the third year.
In 2008, Oakwood adopted 70 Foster Children and the number increased to 85 in 2009 and we are expecting additional increases in 2010. One Associate can support a Foster Child for the annual school fee of Rp. 180,000 (around USD 20,-)
With these donations, Oakwood hopes that the children will benefit from this opportunity and will be given a chance to study and pursue their dreams, as we strongly believe that the future of our nation lies in nurturing our children
